You could easily imagine that this designer town on the Costa del Sol, Spain was once a traditional fishing village, but it was actually man made as a tourist destination. It’s now become known as the hangout for the rich and famous, who come to show off their super cars and eat in the restaurants.

Although there is a beach, the main centre of the town is actually the huge harbour, packed with luxury yachts and pleasure boats. Surrounding this, you’ll find all the designer shops you could ever desire. Look out for Ralph Lauren, Rolex, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Versace and Jimmy Choo. In between there are luxury bars and eateries.

At the entrance to the harbour stands a Mirador look-out built in traditional stone. There are great views from the top when the tower is open.

The joy for us of visiting this place was simply to sample this luxury lifestyle, if only for an afternoon. When we were there, the Saudi royal family had their huge super yacht moored in pride of place in the marina and Hollywood star Russell Crowe was holidaying near by.

There is parking all around the edge of the Marina… but only for those with the right pass. As such, we saw Lamborghinis, a McLaren, Rolls Royce SUV and numerous other high end cars. If you love vehicles like this you’ll be in your element. The only odd thing is that allowing these cars to park here means that the tiny footpath can’t be extended. On busy days, all the shoppers have to risk injury and walk in the road. It would have been a far nicer experience to have this whole area as a pedestrian plaza. Of course, that would mean that the people with fancy cars would have to park somewhere else.
