Cavtat

Cavtat is an attractive town near to Dubrovnik in Croatia. Tourists come here to explore the pretty old town and walk the coastal pathway. It’s also a great place to stay!

There are lots of things to see and do in Cavtat. There are plenty of bars and restaurants on the edge of the harbour, but it’s the small streets of the old town behind that we loved the most. We explored every street and enjoyed how the traditional houses have remained largely unchanged for centuries.

Also in the old town you’ll find the Shell Museum which we thought was fascinating! There are so many shells from all around the world here. Another highlight of out time in Cavtat was climbing the steep steps to the Mausoleum on the top of the hill. There’s a small fee to go inside which is interesting to see. The best thing is the view though from the graveyard outside! It’s a stunning and peaceful place to be.

There’s a lovely coastal path here which starts from the small chapel in the harbour. You basically follow the edge of the small peninsula all the way around to the modern harbour on the other side of the old town. There are plenty of benches along the way and some stunning views at the furthest point.

We’d actually recommend staying in Cavtat on your trip to Dubrovnik. That’s what we did and when we wanted to visit the city, we hopped on the regular bus services. The rest of the time, we chilled in Cavtat. It was like heaving a sunshine holiday and a city break all the same time.
